Geo Trail

2 MILE TRAIL

SUSTAINABLE + URBAN TRAILS

Geo Trail Access Sign | Klamath Trails Alliance

The Geo Trail in Klamath Falls was constructed in 2016 as a community initiative. The nearly 2-mile long  recreational trail connects Crystal Terrace, Sky Lakes Medical Center and Oregon Tech providing scenic vistas and an opportunity for relaxation and physical activity for all to enjoy.

The name Geo Trail was chosen because a nearby geothermal plant generates geothermal energy that’s used to heat Oregon Tech and Sky Lakes.

GEO TRAIL COMMUNITY FUNDRAISER

Klamath Trails Alliance is reaching out to community members to help raise funds to construct another section of the Geo Trail.  KTA has secured $56,000 or 75% of the $75,000 needed to complete the project and are trying to raise the remaining $19,000.

We need your help!

The Geo Trail extension involves construction of a 5’ wide compacted gravel path another third of a mile south to link up with Harmony Lane.

Construction of a gravel path along Harmony Lane, where future sidewalks will be built, will allow pedestrians/trail users safe passage along the road from vehicular traffic.

The project solves a connectivity and legal access issue since the Geo Trail was built. Currently trail users cross private property, without permission, on an unsustainable dirt path to access the Geo Trail from the south.

Recently KTA secured trail use agreements from the private landowners to allow public access.

Outcome/Benefits:

  • Enhanced Recreation Opportunities – easy access to trails and open spaces will encourage thousands of nearby residents, employees and students to recreate.

  • Improved Connectivity – the trail extension will improve the long-term biking/walking and commute option for Sky Lakes and Oregon Tech employees/students.

  • Legalize Trail Access – KTA will maintain legal access through trail agreements with landowners

  • Improved User Experience – instead of utilizing a sometimes dusty or muddy dirt path trail users will now travel on an all-weather compacted gravel path.

  • Improved Public Health – trails and outdoor recreation are critical elements to improving our mental and physical well-being.
